New app challenges you to put down your devices to enjoy your meals

When eating dinner, one of our biggest vices is having our phones out on the table. Between taking photos of our food, constantly checking social media, or texting others while we eat, it’s become pretty obvious that we’re addicted. Turns out there’s an app that’ll shame you into putting your phone away and will continue to do so until you get into the habit of keeping it away during meals.

A new app called Dinner Mode that challenges you to disconnect while you eat. Anyone who feels like they’re on their phone too much and have given up too much control to their devices could benefit from creating a daily habit of being offline for a set period of time every day.

How does Dinner Mode work?

Users can simply open the app, set a timer for how long you plan on enjoying your meal anywhere from 15 minutes to a leisurely 2 hours, and then follow the prompt to turn your phone face down. If you make it through the time without checking your phone, you are handsomely rewarded with a hearty “Congratulations!” You can share your time spent away from your dear digital appendage on social media and challenge friends, or other users, to do the same.

But if you cheat and look at your phone even just to turn it over a big red dinner plate appears and tells you that you have failed big time.

Why Dinner Mode?

Dinner Mode was launched in September, 2014. Since launching, people all over the country have taken the Dinner Mode challenge.

If you’re one of the millions of people who have a hard time disconnecting and are on your phone, tablet and computer too much Dinner Mode is for you. The concept is easy. We are increasingly becoming addicted to technology. You see it every day, people on their phones walking down the street, in their cars, at the checkout line and while eating. It’s madness! Our brains need a break from the connectivity and so do our hearts and souls. The question is what can we do about it?

This app is a great idea and it’s free to download from the apple store but why not go the extra mile and leave your phone in your pocket or purse during meal time.

Make Dinner Mode a daily habit!
